Mentally challenged woman delivers baby girl in street of Calabar

On Friday, a mentally and physically challenged woman has delivered a baby girl on street of Calabar.

The woman birthed her child on Friday evening in Uwanse, Calabar South local government area of Cross River State, but was later evacuated to a government facility.

The mentally ill woman, who delivered the baby by herself before the arrival of good Samaritans gave her name as Pretty and said she is from Benue State

Rescuing the baby and the mother, the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong who was in tears said the baby was delivered by 5.30.

Dr Ekpenyong called for more awareness to be created as regards mental health as well as for people to regularly check for other underlying health conditions especially those who have been exposed to hard drugs.

Woman killed, baby critically injured after 5 people shot in Flint

FLINT, MI — Five people have been shot in Flint Thursday, Jan. 28, including a baby listed in critical condition and a woman who has been pronounced deceased.

Flint Police Chief Terence Green confirmed with MLive-The Flint Journal Thursday evening that one woman is dead and an 11-month-old child is in critical condition at a local hospital following a shooting in the 1900 Block of Tebo Street.

The scene remains active around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Green said, as police wait on the assessment from the crime labs.

“It looks like it might have been a dispute between two groups,” Green said. “We have an outdoor, indoor crime scene.”

Green did not have information the condition on the other three victims.

It’s an ongoing investigation with no suspects at this time, he added.
